报告简介:

The numerical simulation of damage and fracture phenomena is highly relevant for a number of engineering applications. In general, numerical approaches to crack propagation modeling can be classified as either discrete or smeared approaches. The scaled boundary finite element method lends itself to both approaches. In a discrete crack propagation framework, it excels in modeling stress singularities at the crack tip and in facilitating localized re-meshing through the use of polygon elements. In the context of smeared fracture modeling, the phase field approach has recently gained popularity. Here, SBFEM facilitates the use of structured (octree / quadtree) meshes which in turn allow for rapid mesh size transition near damage zones and for the straightforward implementation of adaptivity. Recent advances in both areas will be summarized in this talk. Numerical examples are presented covering discrete thermally-induced crack propagation modelling, thermal stress analysis in functionally graded materials and 3D phase-field modeling of brittle fracture.

 

报告人简介:

Carolin Birk is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Germany. She obtained her first academic degree (Diplom-Ingenieur) in Civil Engineering and the degree of Doctor of Engineering from Dresden University of Technology, Germany. Her research focusses on the development of computer models for the design of structures and materials to withstand extreme loading. She has made significant contributions to the development of the scaled boundary finite element method – a semi-analytical approach, which is currently evolving into a general purpose, fully automatic simulation technique.
